Winner of the Weekly Garden Photo Contest “A Glimpse of Our Backyard”

“Siberian iris and peony always collaborate to make a colorful presentation” on the beautiful photo entry, A Glimpse into Our Backyard, the winner this week of the 2022 Home Garden Photo Contest, sponsored by English Gardens. The West Bloomfield resident will receive a home or garden book and be eligible to compete for the grand prize in September, a $200 gift certificate to English Gardens. Walk 47 at Troy Garden Club takes place on July 13th

The 47th Garden Walk takes place at Troy Garden Club from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. on rainy or sunny July 13. The annual event includes six venues all but one in Troy. The “Kaleidoscope of Gardens” will also feature outdoor artists. Tickets are $12 up front and can be purchased online or at Auburn Oaks Garden Center, Telly’s Greenhouse, Troy Historic Village, and Uncle Luke’s. On the day of the event, they’ll be available starting at 9:00 a.m. for $15 each only at Troy Historic Village. Tickets include maps of all places. Fire safety for summer

Here are some First Alert fire safety tips in time for the Fourth of July:

Have the right tools on hand: July sees the highest number of grill fires per month, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Grill outside and keep the grill away from house, fence and tree leaves. Make sure children and pets stay away from the grill and supervise the grill while it is in operation. Keep a portable fire extinguisher near you.
