Wheelers Hills landmark property ‘the greenhouse’ could sell for $4.5m

57 Lum Rd, Wheelers Hill, could soon become the street’s fourth home to top $4m.

Known locally as the “greenhouse” for its expansive glass, this Wheelers Hill home is a rarity.

From the natural light that pours into it to the views that the home at 57 Lum Rd looks out over, the motivation to blur the lines between inside and outside is clear.

And with a price tag of $4.1-$4.5 million, it will likely become the fourth house on the street to sell for north of $4 million.

Ray White Ferntree Gully’s Cristine Jones said the home looked like “something you’d see on Brighton Beach”.

“You first walk in and there’s a great free-flowing open-plan area where you can look out to the garden,” Ms Jones said.

“For someone who wants something different and special, this is the place.”

With views of the Dandenong Ranges and a north-easterly orientation, the walls of glass and floor plan were carefully considered by architect John Demos.

Living spaces also benefit from abundant natural light.

Entertainment spaces are scattered throughout the home, starting with a rumpus room and bar that joins a home theater on the lower level.

The main living zones are on the ground floor and include open plan dining, lounge and living areas.

The kitchen mixes stainless steel appliances and splashbacks with polished white surfaces for a timeless aesthetic.

The main bedroom makes the most of the view, divided by a retreat, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe on the top floor of the three-storey building.

The largest bedroom suite occupies the entire top floor of the home.

The home’s unusual, L-shaped design has also been carefully considered to frame an infinity pool and spa with the self-contained entertainment pavilion with an outdoor kitchen along the property’s eastern boundary.

Additional features include a putting green, patio gardens and two garages.

Impressive views of the Dandenong Ranges aren’t the only visual highlight of the home’s outlook, with Lum Rd boasting some of Wheelers Hill’s most expensive homes.

Three others have sold for more than $4 million, including a sprawling house at 37-47 Lum Rd, which still holds the suburb’s price record after selling for $7,158,888 in 2016.
