Dogs and cats roam free at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center.
In Bentonville, Arkansas, a new animal shelter hopes to inspire the future of animal adoption. The Best Friends Pet Resource Center creates a joyful and accessible environment for pet lovers and pet owners of all ages, although their real superstars – of course – are the pets.
In this shelter, dogs and cats do not live in kennels. During the day, they live in rooms within the center in order to meet potential adopters. At night, however, they return home to loving foster families.

If you think their adoption program is awesome, wait until you hear about all the resources and conveniences they have for people! The crowd favorite has to be the gigantic indoor slide (for humans), though the lounge areas and DIY dog wash stations are invaluable to the whole community. The cafe even doubles as a cat cafe, where anyone can meet adoptable felines!
Susan Cosby, the shelter’s senior strategy and integration adviser, told Fox News that she hopes the shelter will have a lasting impact.
“Here in northwest Arkansas,” she said, “we’re actually creating the future of animal shelters that we hope will be a model for our nation.” Cosby herself has worked with many animals living in kennels, and she knows firsthand that this is not the way to go.
She explained, “It’s not a healthy environment for them to stay happy. They develop behavioral issues over time.” At the Northwest Arkansas location of Best Friends, however, that’s no longer an issue.
Best Friends also has an incredible goal of making the entire country “no-kill” by 2025. Their new cage-free and community-focused center is a big step towards that goal, especially since the shelter aims also help pet owners. As their website, Best Friends Pet Resource Center states, “provides support for families to keep pets at home,” with resources like a free pantry for pet food and supplies. of company.
Whether you’re looking to get help or give help — or even give an animal a home — stopping at Arkansas’ newest animal shelter is never a bad idea.
