The art of entertaining outdoors

Summer is officially underway and entertaining outdoors is on everyone’s mind. Turn on the grill, put the rosé on ice, turn up the music and head out to a summer party. Top East End agents are no strangers to luxury parties – whether they are attending or hosting. We asked for tips for holding al fresco dinners and cocktail parties by the pool in the homes in the Hamptons or on the North Fork this summer. “My husband and I are big food lovers and he fishes and I have the garden, so this is really our favorite season to entertain. We live on the water, so Mother Nature provides the background and sometimes also the entertainment. Our family and friends have come to expect good food and wine, good music and lots of fun. They can play in the pool or paddle board outside behind while we prepare the party. We plan in advance – it’s important. We stay with what’s in season – meat , fish and products. We shop locally for everything from cheeses to bread, pasta, sausages and much more. The local farmers markets are good sources, and of course we have our favorites like Seafood Shop, Carissa’s, Villa Italian Specialties, Candyman, Wesnofske Farms, Cavaniola’s, Iacono and Wölffer, but I’ve been known to travel to Oceanside to get Pastosa’s ravioli and prosciutto bread. Obviously, with that on our to-do list, we really need to plan and start shopping in advance. A very important comp onent is the staff; for any host to enjoy themselves, assistance is a must! When entertaining outdoors, always have seating in the shade as well as the sun, and stay indoors. “

“To guarantee that everyone leaves with good memories of a good evening, I have some fun guidelines when I have to host a summer party. Have a theme / title for the party – it’s always more fun and makes it special. A color theme works or choose a region of the world.Design invitations based on the theme; paperless email invitations work great.Have at least an hour for cocktail hour before noon so your guests can arrive and mingle.Get a sweet and knowledgeable bartender and bid on a special summer signature drink, named specifically for your party theme.Decorate the tables with fresh flowers along with summer lanterns to add the perfect glow to the evening. And my favorite part that any big party should have is a wonderful DJ who can give guests lounge music in cocktails “and noon until it’s time to change the mood and go on the dance floor! Remember, food is important, but what your guests will remember more is the warmth and the good times they spent at your party.”

“When planning a party, the music and the light really set the mood. Smooth, light music and dramatic hanging lanterns or a myriad of candles (placed safely!) Can really create a relaxed, m ellow vibe. For decor, sculptural branches are a fantastic way to make a room look elegant and flowers give a pleasant splash of color. In addition, serving libations from fun, fabulous vintage coupe or cocktail glasses can be a real showstopper, and the use of antique or unusual dishes and cutlery will add some quirks Make it fun! In terms of what to serve, you can never go wrong with finger food, and a raw bar is typically a hit at a soirée by the water. In terms of drinks, I like to offer white wine and rosé for my parties, everyone likes them and I do not have to worry about red wine stains on my outdoor furniture.A fun twist is making wine slushies with a margarita machine.Believe me, guests always love them.In the end is my main advice to be well stocked with food, alcohol and ice cream. These three components – along with fun people of course – are the key ingredients for a successful summer event! “

“I always believe that the best ingredients for any successful party are good food and good company! My full workday schedule does not allow much time to prepare when I host, so I often stop by specialty stores during my daily travels and gather the best options for a true taste of the Hamptons. Favorite stops include Loaves and Fish’s grocery store for the best scones, Round Swamp for products and a huge selection of well-prepared foods, and if I have a demonstration at the beach, I’m sure to make a quick stop at Harry Ludlow’s Mecox Farm for his amazing pies. Of course, I also serve one of my signature homemade challahs, which is usually ready every weekend in the summer to my clients (@challahbackgirl). We also hold a lot of broker bashs during the summer, which is always fun, especially when you have the privilege of playing on great settings. For example, on one of our spectacular ocean views, we love pairing the magnificent dune and ocean views with fresh lobster rolls. It’s the ultimate beach party! ”

“Hamptons are designed to host, and putting together an appropriate guest list is the key to a successful event. For every guest I invite, I make sure there is at least one new connection that they will find meaningful. After the party follows. I team up with all the guests to make sure they can keep in touch. We also enjoyed having a chef to help with our evenings. The chef we use focuses on healthy cuisine that draws from all local sources of ingredients .And it’s fun when the party comes to you. that they will be fulfilled to create a perfect evening. “

“Hosting dinners outdoors over the summer has been the epicenter of our family life for generations. The Beach Lane farm stand provides the ‘farm-to-family’ experience we have come to appreciate. We have learned the hard way. way that everyone wants to sit at the same table, so we have invented a series of extensions that let our zinc table expand to seat from 12 to 24. But our lives changed forever when we built our outdoor kitchen three years ago Now we’re all together, pushing corn, slicing tomatoes, grilling (everything), making smash burgers, baking pizza and CLEANING up. We want to tell everyone who wants to listen that an outdoor kitchen is simply the best investment you can make. can make for your Hamptons summers.High quality outdoor kitchens are expensive and can cost up to $ 2,000 a linear foot, but the better you make the kitchen, the better the experience for everyone. So plan wisely. We have a grill, pizza oven, refrigerator drawers, sink, lobster pot burner, pot filling, baking tray and wok. to make room for lots of work space and stored waste. “
