Boho garden decoration is big news. And it’s no surprise, who wouldn’t want to let that holiday feeling last at home any longer?
Whether it’s from the Balearic Islands or Bali, boho style instantly feels relaxed and fun. And it’s not hard to get home! Garden ideas range from building pergolas and converting sheds into garden bars, to easier wins like packing a rocking chair or hanging a hammock.
It is also not necessary to spend a lot of money. With Aldi’s latest range of garden furniture selling out at the first sign of good weather and prices soaring, it’s time to get inspired and inventive.
“If you’ve scoured all the major retailers and just can’t find anything you like, it’s always worth checking out your local thrift sites like Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, and even charity shops,” said a Coupon Ninja spokesperson. “You’ll probably find a bargain and be the smug neighbor prepared for the spring sun.”
Boho Garden Decor Ideas
First, decide how you want – or would like – to use your garden. If it’s for fun, consider how often you have people over and how much you’d like to receive. Do these events continue into the night? Or do your friends tend to go out early with little ones, as soon as it gets dark?
Perhaps enjoying your family meals during the warmer months is your priority? Or a quiet place to lounge in the sun on the best outdoor cushions? Once you’ve decided what’s important, you can discover which boho garden decoration ideas are right for you.
1. Build a pergola and cover it with lighting

By building a pergola, you create a focal point in your yard for lounging, dining or socializing. Timber structures often come with fasteners for installation on a hard surface, such as a paved patio, path, or patio. Many are self-assembled, although putting them together is a two-person job.
If you want to have your pergola over a patch of grass, a metal structure is better, as wood can rot if secured underground.
Once secure, painting your pergola matte black will make it a standout feature. Then it is perfect for hanging rattan furniture, macrame hanging baskets and light cords for cozy evenings outside.
2. Pack a rocking chair

Wrapping up a rattan rocking chair is one of the easiest ways to bring boho vibes to your yard all summer long. Find a suitable place in the sun to hang it and make sure it hangs securely from a solid and safe construction.
“Always choose materials that are suitable for the weather,” says the Coupon Ninja spokesperson. “Rattan looks classy, but you’ll be opting for good quality rattan that uses high-quality resin as it can withstand the elements better.”
Placing a lightweight rattan stool nearby that is easy to move and store will ensure that a refreshing drink or cocktail is at hand when you need a refreshment or a pick-me-up.
3. Turn the shed into a garden bar

One lockdown trend that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, and that will add a boho garden decor vibe, is the garden bar. In fact, according to garden trader Primrose (opens in new tab)a garden cafe is the most sought-after outdoor feature for Brits in the summer of 2022, with searches up 494%.
To find out, they analyzed the number of Google searches for 53 popular garden products over the course of three months, revealing which products have gained the most interest.
“Today, gardens are home to crazy and beautiful elements like never before,” says Evie Lane, a garden expert at Primrose. “The shift to using our outdoor spaces for something other than gardening has accelerated at an intense pace.”

If you are paving your patio, consider patterned tiles rather than plain ones. Many available prints are reminiscent of historic European paths and sidewalks, or give them a modern twist. This immediately gives your outdoor space a relaxed holiday taste.
Dark tones like charcoal or black also make a beautiful backdrop for lush plants and foliage. Green not only looks beautiful, it is also good for our health and well-being.
5. Hang in a hammock

What better way to while away a hot and sunny summer afternoon than lounging in a hammock? However, most of us only do this on vacation. Aside from the endless to-do list and possible downpours, it’s something we’d really embrace at home.
Those with a mature tree to hang a hammock from are in luck. But even if you don’t, there are plenty that come with their own frames. It’s an easy way to de-stress and sneak away for a nap.
6. Cover your walls with lush foliage

Boho-style dining under the stars doesn’t have to be limited to holidays. Many of us like to eat outside in a cottage style garden when the weather permits. The only drawback is that often lawn and trees are sacrificed for paving and that means loss of greenery and nature.
A great way to complement it is with a vertical garden. Planting a living wall doesn’t have to be difficult. Simply choosing vines, such as scented jasmine or vines, that will trail across your walls is a great option. The addition of raised beds filled with ferns and easy-to-grow foliage will make your yard feel like a lush tropical oasis.
7. Create a drop-down serving station

Converting the garden shed into a bar may not be an option for you. If so, consider a fold-down serving hatch. One can be made with a recycled supply pallet and a rope chain, if you’re handy with power tools, or know someone who is.
The row of plants at the top is not only a charming touch, it also helps the serving station blend in with the garden wall when closed. Then come cocktail hour, voila, aperitifs at the ready!
8. Add a garden shelter

Garden office ideas may be all the rage, but an artist studio or chill-out space is much more fun. It’s a place where you can afford to be bolder with color if you don’t always use it too. Hardly black looks striking inside and out, but be sure to give your garden room some shade as it will absorb the heat.
Introduce vintage pieces and favorite photos or artwork to personalize the space. Adding a hanging egg chair on the patio could be the best place to be this summer.
9. Paint your jars

There’s no denying that plain terracotta pots look beautiful, but if you want to give your garden a laid-back look reminiscent of long lazy summers abroad, give your pots a white wash. Even better, add scenic brushstrokes as a decorative touch.
Reminiscent of Mediterranean homes with a chalky exterior, white pots reflect the sun and keep the insides cool so your plant’s roots can better withstand a heat wave. They will also be a beautiful feature for your foliage.
10. Make entertaining easy with an outdoor kitchen

A modular outdoor kitchen makes entertaining a breeze when you have friends and family over. With space for plates, glasses and cutlery, guests can decide for themselves what they need. So you are free to chat and socialize with them and they can relax and have fun.
Keep the look casual with seagrass baskets, rattan placemats and wooden cutting boards.
