Paint Colors 2023: Paint brands shared their top picks

The biggest names in paint are slowly sending their top picks and trends for 2023. Brands like Valspar, Sherwin-Williams and Glidden have posted their take on the 2023 color. While 2022 offered homeowners and designers the chance to step into biophilia and discover the richness of natural and organic hues, 2023 takes a turn towards something more elegant and eclectic.

So what are the hottest colors that will see these top paint brands come to the fore in 2023? And how can you introduce them into your home? We’ve got everything you need to know.

Colors of Valspar

Valspar has released their Color of the Year for 2023 as well as a few other shades to add to your color palette.

Everglade deck

One of Valspar’s richest colors of the year is Everglade Deck 5011-3. The paint brand calls this luxurious shade of blue “a midnight blue that balances elegance and calm, creating a restorative space.” The company notes that home design is “moving away from fast-paced lifestyles,” adding that Everglade Deck can help create a calm and rejuvenating space in the home.

This rich blue shade with strong green undertones and a subtle hint of black looks vibrant, elegant and opulent. Best in bathrooms and bedrooms, homeowners can add marble, gold accents, black velvet, copper tones and rich, warm leather to their space for a masculine yet sophisticated and luxurious look.

Flora 5004-2C from Valspar is another color that we think will be a popular choice for designers and homeowners alike. Considered a “deep blackened olive, embodying charm and sophistication”, this shade is full of depth. Reminiscent of the muted evergreens found deep in the woods, this hue is both inspiring and relaxing.

Green was named color of the year in 2022 and in 2023 it looks like nothing! People loved the organic feel of this hue, so it seems we’ll continue to see it popping up in home design. However, with new colors like Valspar’s Flora, it’s likely that green will take on a darker and deeper configuration than we’ve seen in the past.

To style Flora, add lots of warm brown tones to your space through the use of wood, leather, rugs, tweeds and other furniture pieces. Discover the organic and natural feel of textures and pieces reminiscent of the great outdoors.

Sherwin-Williams 2023 color collection

Sherwin-Williams has shared a range of dark and moody shades for their 2023 color collection. Many of them are inspiring, luxurious and full of depth.

Dark room

Darkroom HGSW7083 has been named SW’s Color of the Year for 2023. The brand stated that the tone was “inspired by the desire to create a comfortable, yet elegant and romantic home.” Darkroom is a luxurious black with a rich mocha undertone.

This color is best for a study, home library, living room or home office. Combine this beautiful hue with rich coppers, elegant patterns, creams or other soft neutrals and lots of potted plants. Bring out the ornate quality of this color by using beautiful vintage pieces, such as lighting or furniture, that give this hue a sense of deep heritage and antiquity.

Poetry Plum

Sherwin-Williams Poetry Plum HGSW6019 is a mocha-like shade with deep purple undertones. Perfect for a nursery, home office or playroom, this dark shade has a whimsical character. While still full of depth and elegance, this muted plum color has a soft and youthful quality to it.

For styling, Poetry Plum looks best with deep evergreens and yellow creams. Keep it light by pairing it with off-white and pale pink. Or, for a more luxurious look, pair it with gold accents, black and rich mauve tones. SW also suggests styling Poetry Plum “with minimal color and repeating shapes to maintain visual harmony.”

Glidden’s Colors of the Year

Glidden have also shared their thoughts on the dark and moody shades coming to 2023. The brand says the hottest new year colors are meant to “create a cozy and welcoming environment with a touch of luxury.”

Vining ivy

Vining Ivy PPG1148-6 is Glidden’s Color of the Year 2023. A deep, jewel-toned blue-green shade, Vining Ivy appears to have a coastal character with a touch of darkness and mystery. Glidden suggests pairing this shade with other aqua tones or off-whites. And for a more dramatic look, black furniture and metallic accents can give this deep watery hue a more dramatic effect.

We recommend using this color as an accent in your space. It can look especially opulent in a bathroom with marble accents, gold or silver details, lots of metallic decor and rich dark pieces.

Dark granite

Dark Granite PPG1005-7 from Glidden is another rich brown shade with a hint of black. This coffee-colored paint shade is luxurious, modern and dark. Glidden suggests pairing it with “midtones and lighter browns” to really make this color pop and become a feature in your space. We also prefer a monochromatic inspired look with a range of unique brown tones throughout the furniture and floors for a modern twist on darker interiors.

Dark Granite is best for bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens. Any space where people gather or need a luxurious and cozy aesthetic can be a great place to use this elegant hue.

Color is moving towards dark and moody tones in 2023. People crave a cozy and intimate atmosphere in their spaces as we move away from the light and crisp stark white tones that have dominated interior design in recent years. Try these rich and elegant colors from the above paint brands if you want to brighten up your space and create a luxurious feel.
