Our baking expert shares the casserole you need in your life

There are many good reasons to make a pot. This classic dish combines various ingredients, such as meat, cheese and vegetables, into a tough meal. There are many variations, from Italian lasagna to barrel noodle casserole or mac and cheese. Another selling point of casseroles is that they are easy to bake, serve, store as leftovers and reheat. But to make a casserole dish, you need a quality casserole dish.

To find the best stew, we consulted with our baking expert Andrea Boudewijn. A Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef and owner of Superfine Bakery of Los Angeles, Boudewijn shared information about the casserole dish and other kitchen utensils she recommends.

The best stew

Whatever type of food you like, chances are there is a casserole recipe that you will enjoy. “I love stews because they seem to be universal in any culture or any family. Everyone has a kind of recipe that is baked in one dish and then taken from that dish and served directly on the table,” Boudewijn said.

A stew is made and served in one dish, so it is important to have a model that simplifies these steps. Boudewijn recommends the Amazon Basics set with two stews made with strong borosilicate glass. Having two dishes adds versatility when choosing the size of the casserole you want to cook. “The small one would serve two to four people, and a larger one would serve six to eight plus,” Boudewijn said, adding that both dishes have handles that are easy to grasp with an oven glove.

What to do if you do not have a fireproof dish

If you have not bought a stew yet, but can not wait to enjoy a stew, there are other kitchen utensils you can use. A loaf pan or brownie pan will do well in a pinch, and a lasagna pan is ideal for large recipes, Boudewijn said. She added that she likes glass pots for casseroles because you can easily see the ingredients bubble while they bake. This will help you decide when to add toppings like French fried onions.

Other useful gadgets for making casseroles

A stew may be the most important element you need to cook a stew, but other gadgets will be useful throughout the cooking process. Our cooking expert recommends several practical kitchen items that will also serve several other purposes in addition to pot making.

An oven glove is a must-have, Boudewijn said. “It protects your hand from the heat when you pull the casserole dish out of the oven and place it somewhere to cool. It can also serve as a table saver. If you need to put it down and then put the pan on top of it, “It will protect any surface, countertop, etc. from the heat.”

Other kitchen utensils that Boudewijn recommends for casserole baking include a can opener, table protector and chef’s knife.

Some stews require canned ingredients, and not all cans have flip-top lids, she explained. This is where a can opener is useful. A table spatula can be used as a barrier between a hot pot and a table top or table. Home cooks will find that a durable chef’s knife will be useful for preparing some stews as well as many other cooking needs. “A chef’s knife is an amazingly versatile basic tool for any chef to have in their kitchen for anything,” she said.

Boudewijn noted that a small appliance that is particularly useful for cooking stews is a toaster. Not only is this type of stove compact, but it is practical in hot weather when using a full size stove can make the house hot. “If you don’t want to heat up your big oven and you have a countertop, you need a countertop,” she said.

Easy recipe for asparagus stew

Whether you are eager to try a new stew or need a light meal for tonight’s dinner, asparagus stew is a delicious and easy dish to try. Boudewijn gave steps and tips for her asparagus casserole recipe, which she said is creamy and satisfying.

ingredients

  • Three 15-ounce cans of asparagus
  • Two 10.5-ounce cans of cream-celery soup
  • A 6-ounce container of French-fried onions

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Open the three cans of asparagus and drain the water.

Gently push the asparagus out into three neat clumps in a 6-inch-8-inch fireproof dish that is about 2 inches deep. Gently shake the pan to make a solid layer of asparagus. The asparagus skewers should be parallel to the short side of the casserole dish.

4. Empty the two cans of cream-celery soup on top of the asparagus and spread it to the next solid layer. Cover the asparagus completely.

5. Put the pan in the preheated oven, and bake until the cream of celery soup begins to bubble up the sides (about 30 to 40 minutes).

6. Briefly pull the pan out of the oven and make a very generous layer of the French onions all over the pan.

Bake for another 10 minutes or so to crisp the onions and you are done!

Tips

Boudewijn advised that if one follows a few tips, an asparagus pot will be perfect.

“You can gently run a knife over the skewers to cut them into mouth-sized pieces before adding the soup for easier scooping. Whole skewers are nice, but can be messy when lifting a serving out for service,” she said. A square or rectangular pan is best to prepare her asparagus recipe.A round dish is likely to result in the vegetables having bends or crooked shapes after baking.

Boudewijn also recommends that you keep a close eye on the pan when baking the topping to prevent burning. This tip applies to any pot. “It’s really meant to be baked only for a short time, just until it is thoroughly heated, crispy or lightly caramelized.”

Boudewijn added that preventing clutter in the oven will simplify cleaning up after the pan is baked and served. “You may want a plate shape either directly under the casserole dish or on the next grate below to catch anything that may fall or drip.”
