Mt. Arlington, NJ – Managing a Distribution Center is a complex job that, when performed optimally, can have a significant impact on your bottom line. Warehouse managers will welcome STORIS’ new receiving calendar tool as it empowers them to organize outsourced inbound logistics and warehouse teams efficiently.
How warehouse managers utilize receiving bays, appointments, and warehouse workers is critical to effective operations. The new STORIS Receipt Calendar tool uses two new configurable settings, Receipt Groups and Receipt Capacities, to plan schedules. If you manage a network of distribution centers, you can create unique configurations per location. Once these settings are pre-configured, they can be used routinely to plan receipt calendars, automating a previously tedious part of the process.
The first configurable setting allows you to create Receipt Groups by type of stock. The time required, the staff required, and the storage space required to unload inventory differ between categories. For example, receiving stackable boxes of lightweight accessories is generally less complicated than receiving pre-assembled upholstery. Therefore, how you plan your time and resources to handle these goods should also be different. Receiving Group settings allow you to specify the optimal time of day to receive groups of inventory, as well as estimate how long the receiving process typically takes. You can proactively account for the breaks your team will need. Having these settings allows you to plan when certain vendors are eligible to deliver certain purchase orders to you.
The second configurable setting for the receipt calendar is its capacity settings. Here you can set the maximum number of individual trucks and parts you can receive in one day. You can also define extended quantities that managers can override. Capacities allow you to staff adequately for forecasted inventory volumes.
Once your settings are preconfigured, you can continually use them to create receipt calendars. When your logistics partners alert you to an inbound shipment, it’s time to schedule. You can add inbound orders to your ERP manually, via import spreadsheets or automatically using EDI.
“By planning your receiving calendars, you can efficiently utilize all of your fulfillment center commitments, ensure adequate staffing based on inbound activity, and reserve the optimal dock space to store or ship newly received inventory,” notes Fiona Huddleston-Richardson, Product Stewardship Manager.
With the new STORIS receiving calendar, your warehouse management team has control over the flow of products in your receiving bays. Impactful cost and time savings can be found by streamlining the flow of goods through your DCs. The receipt calendar is available in STORIS ERP version 10.7. STORIS partners can take advantage of this new functionality immediately. Want to provide this valuable tool to your warehouse team? Visit STORIS.com to request a demo or call (888) 478-6747.
