Monterey SPCA houses more than 200 evacuated pets
As of Thursday, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Monterey County is home to 212 pets evacuated from the Pajaro floods. The community of Pajaro still has no timetable for returning home after flooding displaced thousands of residents last Saturday. Many evacuees stay in spaces where it is not viable to bring their pets. The SPCA helps by providing temporary shelter for evacuated pets. Evacuated pets include dogs, cats, chickens, parakeets, doves, parrots, a rabbit and an iguana. Additionally, the SPCA rescue team rescued dozens of pets from flooded areas to reunite them with their families. If you must evacuate, the SPCA urges those affected to take their pets with them. Plan ahead if you live in an area prone to flooding or debris flows. If you need SPCA assistance, call 831-373-2631 during the day or 831-646-5534 at night. The SPCA provides free food and pet supplies to residents who need them. If you would like to contribute to the efforts of the Monterey County SPCA, you can learn more about disaster preparedness and donate to help animals in need by visiting spcamc.org.
