We spoke with luxury interior designer Margaret Bravoand the team of My custom made room for a glimpse of different trends and home decor ideas that you can add to your own home this fall. Look good on a budget

“There are plenty of cost-effective ways to make your home feel grand and beautiful,” says the My Bespoke Room team. Swap out your cabinet handles for more streamlined options, or replace your older lampshades with trendier versions. “Soft furnishings like rugs, throws and pillows are also a quick and easy way to add style to a room.”

Doing these projects yourself is an easy way to save money while still keeping your space up to date, and one of our favorite luxury touches is lavish fabrics. Trend cycles have become quite short and we often see many of the same styles in multiple spaces, stores and magazines. But that doesn’t mean you should stick to a style that doesn’t match your personality. The key is to take the time to figure out which style works best for your space, says the My Bespoke Room team.

“Don’t rush, start making a Pinterest board and pin everything you like, soon you will find certain styles, colors and themes popping up. After you see what you are looking for, you can create a create a home that is uniquely yours.”

It’s in the details

Being mindful of how you decorate your room and the way you decorate a room will do more than just make your space look better – it will help you feel more comfortable. Whether you’re looking for a maximalist atmosphere or you set up your office on your MBTIIf you keep your needs in mind, the space feels just right.

“Investing in artwork, prints and plants makes it easy to bring your personality and life into your home,” says the My Bespoke Room team. “Never underestimate a new coat of paint, whether it’s freshening up a room or completely changing the color, it can refresh a room while you decide which style you like.”

Besides putting poison-reducing plants in the room or keeping your desk tidy, one of Bravo’s favorite tips is extra simple: just open your curtains. “One of the best ways to create a calm and peaceful environment at home is to let in as much natural light as possible,” she says. “This will help improve your mood and create a more positive overall mood.”

Learn more about yourself so you know how to decorate. Certain colors and designs can make you feel better and make you feel like your space is more expensive just by looking at it. It makes you feel more comfortable, such as avoiding aggressive colors if you’re easily anxious or having an open design if you don’t want to feel overwhelmed.

“Color can affect our mood and affect how we feel in certain rooms, so it’s important to consider room use before making a decision,” says the My Bespoke Rooms team. “Blue is generally a calming color and therefore ideal for bedrooms, offices or living rooms. Green is also a calming color, which can be great for a home office or living room.” Once you have those base colors, you can overlay brighter shades with decor, artwork, and smaller details.

Search for places to save

Just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for your space. “Don’t rush into new purchases if you can avoid it,” says the My Bespoke Room team. Not only will it cost you extra in the long run if you decide not to use it, but anything you throw away can end up in a landfill.

“Using hand-me-downs or bargains from Facebook Marketplace or charity shops is a great way to quickly create a functional living space, and you could even inherit some vintage gems! “The space should be inviting and comfortable, which means taking into account factors such as furniture placement, lighting and flooring,” she says. You can include storage and decor such as throw pillows to keep it functional and stylish. “Verandas are a great way to expand your home’s living space and can be used for a variety of purposes. With a little creativity, porches can be transformed into beautiful and inviting spaces.”

Think about what your space needs

“If you can take the time to settle into your space before designing or redecorating your home, you can see how the space really works for you and find out what it really takes,” says head of interior design at My Bespoke Room Lucy Henderson. “This can save you from rushing into buying many items that are too big, too small, or just not needed.”

After a focused look at your space, you may realize that you can save floor space by adding storage space under your bed, or that the space between your door and your closet is perfect for a thin bookshelf. Find out where what you need and what you want to meet, and you will hit the jackpot.
