Tara becomes Ontario’s No. 2 seed after finishing third at the OASA elimination tournament. Wilmot qualifies as host, giving up their No. 1 Ontario seed to the Napanee Express. St.George comes in as Ontario’s No. 3 seed, while the Chatsworth Longhorns are Ontario’s No. 4 seed.

The Twins won their first game at the OASA Eliminations vs Fingal 10-1 and the second game in the eliminations 8-3 against Springbrook to enter the game undefeated and a spot at the Canadians.

They lost the unbeaten match to eventual champions Wilmot 5-4, then dropped the other semi-final to Napanee 8-6.

Chatsworth took a longer route and lost their first game 6-1 to Springbrook. The Longhorns then beat Havelock 16-1, Wyevale 11-1 and then lost to Napanee 12-2. That led to a rematch against Springbrook for the final seed in the Canadians, and Chatsworth bounced back with a 6-4 win to earn the fourth and final spot for Ontario clubs at the national tournament.

Each team plays two games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and one on Saturday morning to complete the round-robin. The play-offs and the medal matches take place on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the OASA provincial under-13 championships begin on Friday, August 5 and run until Sunday, August 7 in Princeton.

The Tara Rouse Builders Twins are the fifth seed from the west after going 1-2 at the provincial qualifier in Ponsonby earlier this month.

The Twins beat Ponsonby in the tournament opener 9-2, then lost a close game to PDP Lightning 8-6 to drop them to the bottom of the bracket. Tara then took on the Norwich Otters and kept it close for six innings before eventually losing 14-6.

The Tara McCartney Property Maintenance Twins started their tournament with an 11-1 win over the Norwich Otters on Friday, followed up with a 20-4 win over the Wilmot Thunder to advance to Sunday morning’s undefeated game against the PDP Lightning. The Twins won that game 15-0 to go undefeated into the final against the Norwich Otters, who came all the way back from the bottom to make the final.

The Otters carried that momentum into the final, jumping ahead 3-0, Tara tied it 3-3, Norwich answered with two more to go up 5-3 before Tara scored three more to take a 6-5 lead.

Norwich jumped right field and scored three to go ahead 8-6, held off Tara and scored two more in the fifth inning to go ahead 10-6. Tara scored two of their own in the fifth inning to make it a 10-8 game and held Norwich at bay through the sixth and seventh to get the last crack in the bottom of the seventh.

Landen McCartney led off with a single and took two bases on wild pitches while Nathan Miller struck out. Darren Jacques singled to score McCartney to make it a 10-9 game. Jacques was then called out on a leadoff to clear the bases.

Mason Bell reached base on an error and then stole second base. Zak Hamilton then hit the game-tying RBI single and went to second on the throw home. Colton Hepburn hit an infield single, followed by a throwing error, allowing Hamilton to score the winning run and walk it off for the Twins and give them the No. 1 seed in the Western Division.
