Luxury bedding manufacturer Kingsdown, Inc. reported that it was inspired by the growing sustainability movement and stories of Earth’s Blue Zones to create a new foam collection that debuted at the Winter Market in Las Vegas. The new Blue Zone™ collection, featuring four mattresses, will make its official debut in the Kingsdown showroom, room C1401.

Blue Zones are communities across the planet where people are embracing a holistic approach to living longer, happier and healthier lives by coexisting with natural resources.

This mattress design is based on the alluvial sands of Nicoya, Costa Rica, one of the most famous Blue Zones and home to the ‘Pura Vida’ way of life. The cover of the mattress uses TENCEL™ brand lyocell and modal fibers produced through environmentally friendly processes from sustainably sourced natural raw materials. The edge fabric uses Repreve®, a fully recycled eco-performance fiber made from recycled bottles that is cotton-like, moisture-wicking and cooling to the touch. This mattress contains a layer of sustainably sourced Orbis™ foam, made from polyols derived from recycled mattresses. Orbis production contributes to the responsible management of the Earth’s resources by reducing the number of mattress products that go to landfills. A latex layer has also been designed into the mattress, a natural soy-based foam with water-based glue, as well as ecologically sourced wood in the base box. An important technical comfort component in Blue Zone is the introduction of centi(GR)ade graphene strips. These strips naturally dissipate body heat for a cooler, healthier sleep on a foam mattress.

“Kingsdown has long been committed to sourcing natural materials sustainably and reducing our carbon footprint through low-impact processes,” said Frank Hood, president and CEO of Kingsdown, Inc. “We already work in compliance with the Mattress Recycling Council and the Forest Stewardship Council and given the importance of the sustainability mission at the company, this new Blue Zone collection was the next logical step in our journey.”

Blue Zone communities all have nine agreements that promote longer lives for their residents. Many of these similarities stem from having a connection with nature, whether that means eating a more plant-based diet or practicing stress management and regular exercise.

“As Kingsdown focuses on a more fashion initiative in its other new collections in this market, we realize that younger consumers are not only drawn to fashionable products, but they also place a high value on sustainability,” said Mike James, chairman of Kingsdown, Inc. “And when you think about a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle, better sleep is a natural progression.” That’s why Blue Zone is a superior foam for a sustainable lifestyle.
