Jake Wood replaces Hugo Chegwin in West End’s 2:22–A Ghost Story

Danny Robins’ thriller is in a limited run at the Lyric Theatre.

Jake Wood will take over the role of Ben in Danny Robins’ current engagement. 2:22–A Ghost Story starting January 26 at the Lyric Theater in the West End.

Wood, who was part of the original cast of the 2021 supernatural thriller at the Noël Coward, replaces Hugo Chegwin, who withdrew from the production due to illness during rehearsals. Backup Ben Cutler will fill the role in the interim.

Chegwin said in a statement: “I came down with the flu. Due to not doing well during the rehearsal period, I had to pull out of the play. I am absolutely heartbroken about this, and wish everyone involved with the play the best of luck.” The cast is really amazing.”

Added Wood: “It was an honor to originate the role of Ben in Noël Coward, winning What’s On Stage for Best Supporting Actor in a Male Identification Role in a Play Award for 2021, and I am very excited to rejoin the cast until the end of April. Danny Robins’ script is funny, moving and highly entertaining and easily the best play I’ve ever read. If you’ve seen the show before, please go back and watch it again and I promise you’ll enjoy it as much as I know I will the second time around.”

2:22–A Ghost Storyrecently seen at the Criterion Theater in London, it transferred to the Lyric on 21 January. The hit production will officially open its 13-week engagement at the Lyric on February 1.

The cast also includes Cheryl as Jenny, Louise Ford as Lauren, and Scott Karim as Sam. Matthew Dunster directs.

In the thriller, Jenny believes her new home is haunted, but her husband, Sam, wants none of it. They argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben. Belief and skepticism collide, but something feels strange and scary, and that something is coming, so they’ll stay up… until 2:22…and then they’ll know.

The hit play began life in the summer of 2021 at the Noël Coward Theatre, starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood, then transferred to the Gielgud for 10 weeks in December 2021. That production, which continued Through February 12, 2022, starring Stephanie Beatriz, James Buckley, Elliot Cowan and Giovanna Fletcher. 2:22–A Ghost Story it reopened at Criterion in May 2022 with Tom Felton, Mandip Gill, Sam Swainsbury and Beatriz Romilly and later featured Laura Whitmore, Matt Willis, Felix Scott and Tamsin Carroll, who continued for the remainder of Criterion, which ended on 8 January. , 2023.

The production also features set design by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Cindy Lin, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph Sound, illusions by Chris Fisher and associate direction by Matt Hassall.
