MUMBAI: From 1 September, commuters will be able to travel on luxury buses provided by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). First, seven BEST premium buses will be introduced on critical office routes between Thane-South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai-South Mumbai.

Passengers targeted especially for office passengers will be able to book a place on the buses via the mobile application. 200 luxury buses will be introduced in the first phase, and by 2024 BEST plans to introduce around 2,000 such buses.

The soon-to-be-released app will also feature a ‘Home Reach’ feature where passengers can enter their details such as their home address and activate live location. The BEST control room will track the movements of the passengers and if they do not reach their home within the stipulated time, the control room will call the passengers to check their whereabouts.

“Bus services will be introduced on office routes between Thane and South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to South Mumbai,” said Lokesh Chandra, Managing Director of BEST.

Bus services will be carried out especially during office rush hours and BEST aims to attract office-goers traveling with private vehicles and private buses.

The fares of the bus services have not been finalized yet, but BEST officials stated that they will be cheaper than mobile application-based taxis and private buses.
