Kristen McGowan reveals 10 easy changes anyone can make with minimal effort and maximum impact.

She said, “I’m sure we can all agree that we like our rooms to look like a fancy hotel room, and the only thing stopping us from doing that is just a few decorative tricks.”

Upgrade your bedding

If there’s anything worth spending money on, it’s your bedding.

Think about it, you probably spend a good portion of your life between the sheets, so it makes sense that it’s a quality you love.

Of course, you don’t have to spend a fortune, but spending the time finding quality bedding that has more neutral colors and patterns will instantly make a huge difference.

Stay away from matching furniture

If you are looking to buy new furniture for your bedroom, buying everything matching can sometimes be cheaper and less stressful, but it can also look tacky and cheap.

So if you want to elevate your bedroom, Kristen said, “I highly recommend choosing one-of-a-kind pieces throughout your bedroom, which means your bed doesn’t match your night suite.”

If you already have matching furniture, try switching things between rooms for a more eclectic feel.

Change the lighting

Kristen suggests updating the lamps on your bedside table for lamps that add style.

“Maybe get some in a contrasting color to really stand out on the sides of your bed,” she said.

You don’t have to spend a fortune either, shop for lampshades and bases that you can mix and match.

add carpet

“Rooms with rug look much more luxurious than ones without rug, and sometimes when you don’t have rug in your bedroom, the furniture seems to float,” Kristen said.

“You can add a lot of texture, color and character to your room by adding a rug.”

Even if you have floor rugs in your bedroom, a rug can help improve its appearance and make it appear more luxurious.

Rethink curtains

“The window treatments in your bedroom should be very functional, but also decorative,” said the professional.

She explained, “When you go to a hotel, they usually have two or three different window treatments.

“Sometimes they have blinds, sheer blinds, and blackout blinds, but you can just use blinds.”

Add seats

“If you have the space for that, I highly recommend adding a seating area,” Kristen said.

While this could be an armchair or a love chair, it could just be a small bench at the end of your bed.

If you don’t want to shell out any cash, the professional suggests shopping at your home and moving a chair from somewhere else to your bedroom.

Overfill pillows and pillows

If you want to look for a lower hotel, filling your pillows will make them look more expensive and of higher quality.

All you have to do is buy pillows that are too big for the covers so that they look more plump.

Put a layer of bedding

Once you have the bedding you love, you can make a big difference in layering it with different pillows, blankets, and sheets.

Kristen explained that doing so would take your bed from “flat and boring” to an instantly worthy and expensive hotel.

In the summer, you can still layer bedding as well, just use thinner cotton sheets, rather than thicker blankets.

No mirrored furniture

Since your bed is the main focus of your bedroom, it is very important that you keep the bed frame itself clean and immaculate.

Kristen explained that mirrored beds or any decorative headboards instantly reduce the look of the room.

“Keep it simple, make it timeless, and decorate the room in other ways,” she said.

Think of symmetry

“Consistency makes a huge difference to the overall design when you’re making any space, but especially the bedroom,” said Kristen.

She suggested balancing the room with lighting and decor features.

This does not necessarily mean the same thing on both sides of the room, but only things that balance each other out.
