Summer is officially here! Not only can we (hope!) look forward to an influx of good weather, but we can also embrace emerging home and yard trends for the coming season. For anyone looking to get started right away, Yelp took out his summer trend report for 2022. Naturally, the company brought in the designer and weird eye star Bobby Berk to offer expert advice on how to incorporate them into your home.
Based on Yelp’s research and reviews, the company has identified 10 of the top home trends for this summer. It’s no surprise that 70s design is back and is not limited to the interior. The style makes its way outdoors and includes everything from a sunken living room with a fire pit to a patio with rattan furniture softened by colorful throw pillows and blankets.
Other hot trends include green design additions (think solar panels and installing electric vehicle charging stations) and outdoor lighting. “I’ve been using solar lights for years now, and not only are they easy to install, they don’t require any power, which means you can add them virtually anywhere,” Berk says.
Glass accents – including skylights, glass partitions and railings – and smart home upgrades are also on the rise. But the trend Berk is most excited about? Accent walls. “It’s such an easy way to add visual interest to a space, and you don’t have to limit yourself to painting,” says Berk. In his home, the designer had a Yelp handyman install wood veneer on one of the walls in his guest bedroom to give it more intrigue.
Whether you’re adding a fresh, contrasting coat of paint to all the trim around your windows or giving your yard a complete landscaping overhaul, there are plenty of ways, big and small, to engage with these summer house trends. You can dive into the full report here to get the whole truth. And if you need more outdoor room design ideas or summer decorating ideas, we’ve got you covered.
