Goshen Theme Park adds Pride Parade to Miniland Display

LEGOLAND has added some additional special elements to its massive Hudson Valley theme park to celebrate Pride Month.

If you’re planning to visit LEGOLAND New York in Goshen this month, you might notice some big changes on the New York City display at the Miniland. For those unfamiliar with Miniland, it is a picturesque area of the park where everything is made entirely of LEGO bricks. There are scale models of major cities and landmarks from across the country and around the world including Mount Rushmore, Golden Gate Bridge, The White House, Yankee Stadium, and more.

It’s hard to describe Miniland in words, as it’s the only LEGOLAND attraction that most visitors wouldn’t expect to be so huge. The huge screen spans a long, winding path and includes interactive elements that you can control as well as robotic vehicles and people in motion. You could probably spend an entire day exploring Miniland and still not see everything the brick builders hide inside these intricate models.

This month, the New York City screen added some surprising features that show LEGO’s commitment to inclusion. A private pride parade appeared in front of a newly designed model of the Stonewall Inn. The parade runs around the building and features a motorized float with a rainbow extending over the word ‘love’. There are also buoy dancers, a group of parachutists, pride flags and the human rights campaign emblem “Equality”.

Similar Pride shows are located in LEGOLAND parks across the country, including the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Westchester.

LEGO has always been an ally of LGBTQIA+. Last year, the company revealed a model called “Everybody’s Awesome.” Designer Matthew Ashton explains that he was inspired to create the design through his own experience of the 1980s and the loneliness and uncertainty he felt during that time. He says that if a group like this once existed, he would have gone a long way to making him realize he wasn’t alone.
