One of the things that Germantown residents appreciate about their neighborhood is its very eclectic character. Shabby to lavish, modest to grand residences can be found here, and quite often one can find examples of all four extremes within a two to three block radius of where one is.

This eclectic Germantown Victorian home for sale falls into the elegant and grand matrix box. It is located in the more affluent northwest quadrant of the neighborhood, where several other homes like this also reside.

George Pearson, an architect who spent part of his early career working for City Hall architect John McArthur, Jr., built this house for himself in 1893. And he commissioned it to all kinds of interesting architectural details that have been well maintained and preserved in our time.

The butler’s pantry

Another original item kept in this house: The milk delivery cabinet in the butler’s pantry. Remember, this house was built in the days when people used coolers to keep food cold and unpasteurized milk was delivered directly to people’s homes.

However, the kitchen only looks old. Credit the custom LaCanche stove, custom cabinetry, exposed beam ceiling, and exposed brick wall for pulling off the feat.

Beyond the kitchen, a hand-built cedar shed could serve as a garage, workshop or storage space. A bathroom is between it and the kitchen.

The listing agent says her bathroom “could have been designed for royalty,” and she’s on the right track with that comment. The master suite’s huge walk-in closet, which features an island dressing table, could be converted into a fifth bedroom if required.

Bedroom/home office/office

The two bedrooms on the third floor share a bathroom with a clawfoot tub. One has built-in shelves which make it ideal for use as a home office or office.

Pretty grand, right? Plus, this eclectic Germantown Victorian home for sale won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
