FAMILY-owned garden center Moss & Moor in Ilkley is continuing its pledge to make a difference to the community by raising over £1,700 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
In the latest event, Moss & Moors customers donated £775 with an in-store charity raffle to win a luxury egg chair. The lucky winner said she was delighted to have contributed to such a worthy cause.
Regional fundraiser for Martin House, Rebecca Taylor said: “We are so delighted that Moss & Moor’s latest raffle was such a success and raised this fantastic amount of money. This money will help us continue to provide specialist care for seriously sick babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions.”
Moss & Moor co-founder Mike Miller added: “When we launched Moss & Moor, one of our primary aims was to be a force for good in our local communities. I am incredibly proud of the Moss & Moor team for having such a strong commitment to our fundraising initiatives, from giving up their free time, supporting staff sales to organizing events and physical challenges, we are excited about the program of activities which will help us increase our contribution to all the worthwhile causes that fit with our own mission .”
Each year, Martin House cares for more than 440 children and their families from across West, North and East Yorkshire, as well as around 150 bereaved families in its hospice, in hospitals and in the community. It is open 24/7, 365 days a year when families need help and support. Its support includes planned respite stays, symptom control, acute and end-of-life care and bereavement support, which resonates with staff at Moss & Moor.
It costs almost £9 million a year to provide this care, the majority of which comes from voluntary donations and fundraising.
Moss & Moor has built a loyal customer base in the 18 months since opening in February 2021.
Recent accolades include awards for indoor and outdoor living, plus a winner in the category of catering excellence in the regional Garden Center Association awards. High praise for Best Brunch in the recent Oliver Awards and an inclusion in the Good Food Guide. In the restaurant, new menus are introduced seasonally with breakfast brunch and afternoon tea gaining a loyal following.
Workshops, events and classes are building momentum, with a full program planned for summer and autumn/winter 2022.
