The newly released Disney Dreamlight Valley is a colorful, enchanting life simulator in which players are tasked with restoring the Dreamlight Valley to its former glory and battling a phenomenon known as ‘The Forgetting’. Along the way, players can meet some iconic characters from Disney and Pixar movies and invite them to move to Dreamlight Valley. Early in the game, players will be given the choice to recruit Moana from moana, the titular robot of WALL-E, or Remy van Ratatouille. But which of the three should you recruit first?
You will eventually be able to visit all three worlds and recruit their respective characters. However, unlocking each world requires: dream light, the magical resource earned by performing various tasks in the valley. While each character can befriend and unlock gifts and quests as their companion level increases, all three characters also have their own unique perks. However, you can always choose to recruit the character that is your favorite. That said, the general advice would be that players interested in To cook should recruit remi, those who are interested in gardening should recruit WALL-Eand those interested in to make money and clearing the valley should recruit moana.
Here’s more information on how to recruit each character and what benefits they offer when recruiting.
Grow a garden with WALL-E
Beloved Pixar robot WALL-E is doing what he does best: cleaning up trash on the devastated, long-abandoned Earth. To recruit WALL-E, players must help him clean up the rubble, plant various crops to beautify the devastated Earth, and give him gifts that showcase the beauty of Dreamlight Valley. Once WALL-E is convinced that Dreamlight Valley is a lush, beautiful place to live, he will move in.
Once WALL-E has moved to the valley, players can complete the quest Village project: the garden. This quest requires finding 5 Sugarcane seeds and 5 Wheat Seeds as well as tinkering a Trellis and a burlap bag. Once the garden is established, WALL-E regularly plants random crops for the player to harvest. This is a useful feature as food can be eaten to restore energy or cooked into meals. Meals restore even more energy and can also be given to villagers.
In addition, players can earn a number of benefits by increasing WALL-E’s Companion Level. Befriending players of WALL-E nets in particular 6,000 star coins, much more than most characters. Players can also earn themed decorations and a WALL-E inspired poster.
Making culinary delights with Remy
Remy may be one of the shortest chefs, but he is one of the best! Without having to hide under Linguini’s hat, the rat in Dreamlight Valley runs his own restaurant, ‘Chez Remy’, which players can unlock once Remy has moved to the Valley. Of course, to convince him to move, players will have to complete a few quests involving his favorite pastime: cooking. You’ll need to collect ingredients and prepare dishes good enough to please the food critic – including Remy’s specialty, the iconic Ratatouille. All of these recipes are added to the player’s recipe book so that they can recreate these meals and eat them or give them away as gifts.
In preparation for the grand opening of Chez Remy in the A restaurant makeover quest, players will have to collect 10 Oregano, 15 Raspberries, 15 Carrotsand 25 Wheat. Once Chez Remy is open, it will serve as a place to cook and as a shop, where players can purchase new ingredients: cheese, eggs, milk, butter, and peanuts. Having access to these ingredients will greatly expand the number of recipes a player can cook.
Befriending Remy unlocks different species kitchen furniture which the player can use to decorate the kitchen in his own home. Other unlockable items include an outfit, poster, and statue based on items that appear in the movie Ratatouille.
Sail the seas with Moana
As a traveler, Moana is excited to move to Dreamlight Valley and will do so once the player has repaired her boat. The demigod Maui, on the other hand, needs a little more persuasion — you’ll need to cook him several three-star meals and complete a Maui-themed trivia quiz before he moves in. Players interested in recruit two characters instead of just one you should definitely take this challenge and go to Moana’s Realm.
In addition, Moana offers players access to her Fishing boat, which catches a variety of ocean-dwelling fish at certain points during the day. Refurbishing Moana’s fishing boat requires: 50 Softwood, 70 Fiber, and 3 Pink Hydrangea. (Fibre is made from seaweed, which can be fished or collected on the beach.) The boat can also be upgraded to bring in bigger catches more often by paying Star Coins to Scrooge McDuck.
Of course, Maui doesn’t come without its own perks – after all, he’s a demigod! Shortly after meeting Maui, he will: upgrade the player’s pickaxe, allowing you to clear more types of debris around the valley and mine gems faster. Between these gems and the fish Moana brings in, diligent players can earn a lot of Star Coins very quickly. Additionally, Maui gives players a quest to create eel traps and bury eels in the ground, alluding to one of its most famous myths. Completing this quest will unlock the ability to plant and grow coconuts in Dreamlight Valley.
Finally, both characters give rewards when their Companion Level is increased. Maui’s ever-modest rewards are mostly statues of himself and Maui-inspired decorations, while Moana presents players with shell-themed items and a beautiful dress inspired by her own iconic outfit.
Ultimately, players should aim to recruit every character available in Dreamlight Valley, as every familiar face from Disney and Pixar has their individual perks. However, this guide can help undecided players choose between Remy, Moana (and Maui!) and WALL-E for their village’s first new resident.
