Different products have been gaining attention on TikTok lately, including those ideal for the spooky season. In August, shoppers went crazy for a new line of Halloween decor, especially at Michaels. TikTok users documented their trips to their local store displaying Victorian Gothic style items, including a bust of the author and poet Edgar Allan Poe. However, many reviewers noted that their store sold out the unique collection well before October.
Similarly, a rug sold at TJ Maxx and Marshalls caused quite a stir and sold out pretty quickly online. It’s matte black and white, covered in ghosts, and was actually a fan favorite in 2021 as well.
However, although you will probably only use these decorations in the fall, you may be tempted by a much more practical kitchen product that you can use all year.
If you forgot to take meat from the fridge to defrost before eating, you’re in luck. The XWell Defrost Tray is an aluminum melting plate that one TikToker says actually works.
In a video released Sept. 7, @chum.bucket51 puts the tray to the test, describing it as “one of the top five items to order from Amazon.” In the video, he shows frozen turkey in a plastic bag and states that the tray will defrost in a few minutes. TikToker ends the clip and starts a new one after the five-minute period has elapsed.
“It’s been five minutes and my turkey has thawed,” he says. “I’ll make a turkey burger for lunch. If you forget to remove the chicken before your mom gets home from work, you should definitely get this.”

The video circulated on TikTok, garnering more than 255,000 likes and 1,000 comments.
“I literally said ‘no’ out loud, then you misled me,” wrote one commenter, while another commented that they were “definitely invested in this.”
While others joked that the tray was “magic” and “witchcraft”, one user wrote that the tray really was “like magic”.
Sweetening the deal, this viral product is currently on Amazon for $16.95, down from its regular price of $25. If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you can also take advantage of two-day shipping.
While a few were fascinated by the TikToker defrosting tray, some were not so quickly convinced. Different reviewers noted @chum.bucket51 that thawed turkey is “paper thin” and will still thaw quickly.
“I bought this months ago thinking it was great,” says one review. “I used it once and now it’s in the cupboard. Something super thin like this would work, but everything else would take forever.”
On top of that, many noted that a standard aluminum pot can do the same thing as a quartz or granite countertop, and it may be “safer” to use a standard cold water pot to prevent bacterial growth. According to FoodSafety.gov, which is overseen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the safest way to thaw meat is to store it in the refrigerator, and officials do not recommend thawing it on the counter.
