Brent Kutzle Lists LA Home – DIRT

After upgrading to a more spacious, contemporary home from Barbara Bestor in the trendy, permanent Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, OneRepublic guitarist and cellist Brent Kutzle of OneRepublic has brought his previous home, also in Silver Lake, to the market for $3.5 million. The veteran rock musician, who also wrote dozens of songs for pop singers like Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding and Kelly Clarkson, bought the trendy fund nearly three years ago for $2.425 million.

Described in listings maintained by Gina Cooper and Carolyn Wolf of Compass as an “urban oasis,” this clean, organic-meets-vintage contemporary residence includes four bedrooms, a three-and-a-half-bath master home plus a converted studio-style separate guesthouse. To a showroom with black walls complete with kitchenette and bathtub.

With the help of Tiffany Howell of Night Palm, Koetzel and his wife Jackie Leslie filled the two-story 3,200-square-foot home with what Lonny magazine described as “modern metallic accents, antique furniture, printed wallpaper, and accent lamps,” like a delicate glass pendant hanging on the staircase. .

The main floor living and entertainment spaces, which include a simple but elegant mid-century-inspired kitchen, are tucked away at the back of the house, behind a two-car garage facing the street and a long entryway. Both the living room and the kitchen permeate through glass slides into a curtained dining balcony covered in mature plantations.

Upstairs, one of the three medium-sized guest bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom, the other two share a hall bathroom, the basic bedroom has its own small bathroom, along with an oversized wardrobe/dressing room and sliding glass on its spray deck the sun.

However, the real draw for the property may just be illusory gardens, created jointly with The Tropics Inc. Prickly succulents, delicate palm trees, and small pieces of leafy grass. Next to the guesthouse/examination room, a built-in cushioned bench by the dark-bottomed pool and spa makes a nice place to dry off and soak up some sun, while raised bed planters allow the urban gardener to exercise his green thumb.

Married in 2017, Kotzel and Leslie have been making all kinds of real estate moves over the past few years. During the summer of 2018, they dropped about $1 million on a large home on 21 semi-remote acres in rural central Washington, and spring of 2019, around the same time they bought the Silver Lake home they’re now selling, they shelled out $2.1 million for a secluded hilltop in Topanga. Ltd., California, was sold about 1.5 years later for $1.85 million, a notable loss of a quarter of a million dollars not including improvement expenses and real estate fees. Finally, not a full year ago, the couple upgraded—and more than doubled their square footage—the 7,200-square-foot Barbara Bestor-designed home they bought for $5.7 million from actress Katie Aselton and Hollywood Polymath Mark Duplass.
