Demand for high-quality residential projects remains at a high level. While many have a contemporary style, Cera Stribley’s neoclassical design for Boxshall, located in the heart of Brighton, offers the comfort and space of a grand home in a residential area.

The building, with 15 apartments spread over three floors, is located in the residential area of Middle Crescent near the old town hall. Reference was made in the design to the nearby parks and tree-lined neighborhood, with historic baths, bath boxes, yacht club, golf course and surrounding gardens all in close proximity.

“We have made good use of the expanse, elevation and light facing north through the dynamic typology inspired by coastal rhythms and classical proportions,” said Cera Stribley Managing Principal Dom Cerantonio.

Straight lines and solid forms refer to public architecture and convey a sense of authority, while elevating principles of classical architecture with contemporary details. This established architectural language ensures that the proposed building fits comfortably into its streetscape, while the contemporary detailing indicates a level of modern sophistication that is at home in the discerning neighbourhood.

Myles Baldwin Design has tackled landscape architecture, with a layered planting approach that demonstrates biophilic tendencies. The plantations interact with Cera Stribley’s warm, minimalist palette, with grays, charcoals and bronzes reminiscent of the nearby coastline.

Studio Piet Boon oversaw the interior design, drawing inspiration from Brighton’s lifestyle. The Dutch practice created a modern and understated palette throughout the interior.

“The juxtaposition of light grays and charcoals define the base palette, which blends seamlessly into the natural environment while remaining sensitive to the neighborhood’s architectural vernacular,” Cerantonio says.
