Akron announces updates to Perkins Pool, Ed Davis Community Center

One of Akron’s only outdoor public pools and a nearby community center in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood will soon get multimillion-dollar upgrades.

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan recently announced that the city is using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to renovate Perkins Woods Pool and the Ed Davis Community Center.

Renovations to Perkins Woods will begin this fall and include replacing the pool and adding a 15-foot slide and climbing wall, as well as a shaded seating area. The existing bathhouse will also get a makeover.

The pool — one of only two public outdoor pools in Akron — is located at 899 Diagonal Road.

A construction site plan for the Perkins Pool can be viewed here.

The Ed Davis Community Center at 730 Perkins Park Drive will get a new gymnasium with more seating as well as an upgraded kitchen, an indoor walking track and an outdoor playground. Construction will begin in early 2023.
